Beige Alert! Neutral Zone Ahead

It all started with clocks and a fox.   I purchased my fox sweater, along with this Lost Time skirt by Floreat, and an ivory and black stripped blouse all on the same visit to ThredUp (use this link to save $20 off your first order http://www.thredup.com/r/WKVOY5 ).  I didn't really intend to put them together because using all neutrals just seemed like a really boring concept.  When everything arrived, I laid them all out and couldn't help but think there was really something to this.  It's true that head to toe neutrals is a bad idea pretty much all the time.  If there is an exception to this rule it is this, because although all the colors are neutral, there is some really great print mixing involved which still gives the outfit a lot of visual interest.
There's so much going on with the prints that I think this sort of look could really only be pulled off with neutrals. That's not to say that a splash of color here or there is unwelcome.  On the contrary, using just one color as an accent only enhances the over all effect.  To demonstrate this, I'll show you one outfit in all neutrals including neutral make-up.  Then I have three outfits with one color added and more dramatic make-up.  For a casual, taking-the-girls-to-dance-class sort of outing, I'd choose the first outfit.  For anything else, I really love the other three.  That accent of color really makes these outfits top notch.

  1. Any tips for shopping on Thred Up? I've looked several times and never found anything as terrific as many of your finds. Do you look frequently? Shop any particular categories or designers? Thanks, as always! :)

  2. I do scan the first few pages of new arrivals once a day and I narrow that search by size. I also do specific searches for brands like Floreat or J. Crew and also narrow those by size so I don't get swamped with all the options. I hope that helps a little. I've been thinking of posting my weekly favorites to the blog to make it easier for people to find things.
