Pretty in Pink

In case you're wondering, the answer is yes, redheads can wear pink and yes, Molly Ringwald's character totally ruined that gorgeous vintage dress and turned it into a formless 80s monstrosity-- a crime for which there is no punishment great enough.  All that aside, I still dig this pretty pink stripe Hamilton dress from UV, so much so that I just bought it in blue.

Ticket to Ride

Finally!  I've been drooling over this Bernie Dexter for over a year, heck, maybe two years! and just when it looked like it was sold out a miracle happened.  Ok, maybe not a miracle.  Unique-Vintage had a few technical difficulties and when they got their site up and running again, they did the classiest thing possible and offered a generous discount as an apology for the delays and confusion.  Suddenly this dress was back, and it was on sale, and I had this discount code, so I finally was able to bring it home.  I knew just where to go for pics too.  This little driveway, not far from my house has the most lovely yellow shrubs in bloom right now, so I stopped by on my way to work to snap a few pics.  And by the way, I'd like to thank you, yes, you---person reading this---for sharing these exciting fashion triumphs with me.  I don't have any real live people who care about this stuff the way that I do, so I'm glad that you're here.

Banana Bandanna

You may have seen this dress; it came out in Anthropologie stores ages ago.  I've been watching and waiting to get one one for $20 or less for a long time now and I finally saw my chance.  I kind of wish it had straps.  I've never been crazy about high maintenance fashion.  But, I do love this dress and I've waited for it for years, so I intend to wear it as much as possible, even if it's only around the farm on quiet summer days.

Where the Magic Happens

Yes, here it is, the place where I do all my sewing and much of my quiet contemplating.  I also occasionally take photos of my thread and favorite seashells as you can see from my banner up there.  This cozy corner of my room is devoted to all my dress and skirt creations, but since I've finished all my sewing projects for the season, I decided to get everything organized for the first time since moving in and hopefully try to keep it that way.
I am a collector of these vintage German nursery rhyme lamps and the one on my desk is the only brown one and also the only one that has a music box.  Wind up the kitty and the little girl rocks in her chair.  My sewing machine is a very modest Mini-Lite beginner model, but it works well for everything I do.  Sure I'd love to upgrade, but I feel like that's a commitment to keep plugging away and move out of the casual hobby zone and into the...er..serious hobby zone.   I know it doesn't sound like a big leap, but I'm not ready for it.  For now, I'm content to have all my project done and my space clean and tidy, so I can spend more time outdoors working on a new casual hobby....Bicycling!  Pics of my new bike coming soon!

Blossom Toss Up Dress Review

I'm a fan of Hell Bunny dresses.  Their unusual prints mixed with their classic cuts are so original and eye catching.  This Blossom Toss Up Dress is available at ModCloth, Unique-Vintage, or directly from HellBunny.com  I always go with ModCloth because I love their customer service should anything go awry with my order.
Anyhoo, it's time for me to gush about this dress!  So, the colors are bold and vivid (yay!)  and the cut is that classic figure flattering style that Hell Bunny always delivers (double yay!).  I'd say that the sizing is accurate.  I bought mine in XS and I could probably have gone down to XXS because the bodice was a bit roomy, but since they don't make this dress in XXS, I opted for a nice bra to help fill things out.  This dress is unlined, but the fabric is thick and 100% cotton, so perfect for summer wear.  And that tea dress length is  particularly great if the weather gets a little breezy.
