Chambray and Polka Dots

Ok, so Memorial Day rolled around and I hit a few of the sales a little harder than I should have.  Honestly I don't know why I spend money any other time of year besides Memorial Day, Labor Day, and Black Friday because those are the best sales and the best time to get the pieces I love at a small fraction of the price.
This olive green polka dot dress from Unique Vintage is something I've been watching and waiting to go on sale for a while and I knew it was finally time.  And since I'm trying to step out of my comfort zone a little, I thought I'd style it with a tied waist chambray shirt and matching VIVAIA ballet flats instead of my usual cardigan.
Since purchasing in May, I have worn this dress, actually this exact outfit, about half a dozen times already.  It's been great for work and fun and although I could never give up my cardis entirely, I'm thinking I really need to rock this tied shirt look more often.

New Year's Progress

I've definitely had my years where I  felt like I'd given enough, tried enough, been through enough, and didn't need to take on any New Year's resolutions, so I don't judge when someone tells me they're opting-out of this tradition.  But, I also have some years in which I'm excited to feel like I'm starting fresh and wanting to make some changes.  This year I'm feeling the New Year's spirit but rather than making new declarations of change, I want to continue the progress on the resolutions I made last year.  Specifically, I want to spend less money, get back to a regular fitness regimen, doing more cooking instead of having everyone fend for themselves, and keep working on making quiet time/ family time my top priorities.  I wasn't perfect at any of it last year, and I don't expect to ever be perfect at any of them or anything else for that matter, but I am making progress and I really want to keep it up in this bright new year.  If I do have a "new" resolutions, it is to return to my old favorite hobbies.  All the things that have fallen by the wayside that I used to love so much, I'm ready to bring them back.

Whatever your resolutions are, or even if you choose to make none at all, I wish you the very best this year has to offer.  Happy New Year!

All of a Kind of Autumn

There are some lessons we just never learn and the fact that Fall arrives whenever she pleases is a lesson I am finally starting to grasp.  I'm forever trying to hurry autumn along here on the blog. I want beautiful colors and crisp mornings, but this year I am content for summer to hang around a little longer.

This year we're working on a little construction project and the last thing we need is to be dealing with the cold weather and the endless rainy days.  So, if fall can just stay put for a few more weeks, I'm more than happy to set up some pumpkins and use my Lightroom skills to turn the greens way down in order to create an autumn look while still keeping summer close.
Naturally Midnight made herself at home in the background.  She's very photogenic and she knows it.  Truly I think when she saw my black cat bag perched on the table she felt a little competitive, and hopped up there to push this usurper aside and show her how it's done.
Today's outfit is a thrifted Unique Vintage dress.  My style is rather colorful, and I love that, but there are so many things in my wardrobe that just don't seem appropriate for my current job, so I am always on the look out for more subtle prints and styles that still feel like me, but are also right for the office and this dress fit the bill perfectly.  And I think I'll leave it at that for today's post.

Harvest Time

It's that time of year in the Mid West and perhaps the entire country when we harvest festivals abound and every time I turn around some surrounding small town is celebrating.  I love them all from apples to sugar cane, though I do tend to alternate years on a few of them so we don't spend every single weekend festival-ing.
In case you're wondering, I don't have an outfit for every festival, (wheat and sugar cane themed dresses are rather hard to come by as it turns out) but if it involves fruit, then yes, I do have a dress for those occasions, and this dress was my apple harvest dress for this year.
There are several local orchards on park grounds that are open to the public and a friend of mine is trying to start an apple-picking tradition as part of our celebration.  I love the idea and think it's just another great excuse to wear this dress which I purchased during a recent sale from Unique Vintage in anticipation of the harvest season.
I'm ready to celebrate our agrarian triumphs in whatever form they take and I'm ready to do it in style, so bring on the harvest festivals!

Lucca Vudor: Comfort Shoes with Vintage Flare

Although I have been a lover of all things vintage for ever so long, I've recently been really leaning in on aspects besides just dresses.  To that end, I've been using an antique housekeeping book to help guide some of my daily routine, and I recently opted for a horse shoe hair cut and have begun learning to wet-set roll and style it like those glamorous ladies of a bygone era once did.
I've also been looking for more practical and stylish footwear that goes well with my vintage dresses.  I was excited when Lucca Vudor reached out for a collaboration.  In addition to offering lots of modern footwear as well as purses and accessories, Lucca Vudor offers a lot of styles that look like they've stepped right out of the past.
These Fenella shoes have great tread, lots of cushion, and so much detailing in the oxford style edges.  I am in love!  I can't wait to wear these shoes will all my fall dresses.  And if they've stolen your heart as well, you can save 15% off your purchase with my promo code at the end of the post.  Also check out my Youtube review, which is posted below.
