There's just no way around it. If you want a standout look, you've got to treat it like an artistic composition. Because that's what it is. Take your boldest piece and then bring in other items that compliment its colors.
For this outfit, I started with this Anthropologie Skirt whose name has been lost over the years. Then I added a tropical print top with a similar yellow color in its print and my wedges that are the same yellow.
I tried it with my neutral flats, but I just didn't like the overall look. It felt like it all fell flat at the feet. I pulled in some teal tights for a little boldness and to break up all that yellow and a navy cardi for neutrality. Voila! A standout outfit.
