Hot Springs, AR

Not my photo.
If you read my blog last week, you'll remember that this year we decided to take a veeeeerry long road trip to Destin Beach, Florida since none of us have ever been and every year I see Facebook photos of smiling people soaking up the sun and think--I want to to do that.  I have to use my vacation time now, so why not go to Florida this year?  On the way we made a little side trip to Hot Springs, Arkansas.  And, can I just say Wow!
Also not my photo.
We stayed at the oldest and awesome-est hotel in town, The Arlington, and it looked like it came straight out of The Shining, inside and out...minus all the horrors.  It was late when we got to town, so we only had a few minutes at Fordyce Museum before it closed.
Ok, from here on, they're all my photos.

The night passed comfortably and our room had a nice view.  We woke up early for a jog through the beautiful city gardens and filled a canteen with natural spring water which turned out to be boiling hot as it came right out of the ground, so maybe not so great for people who've just worked up a sweat jogging.  But the best part of the morning was the amazing pancake breakfast at the cafe across the street from our hotel.
Not our hotel room.  This pic is from the museum.

With breakfast and exercise out of the way, the first thing I wanted to do was go back and properly visit the museum.  Again, I have to say Wow!  I don't like history museums in general, but this one was my favorite ever and I couldn't get enough photos to really take it all in!  It was a preserved bathhouse from the late 1800s-early 1900s complete with gymnasium and stained glass windows, and exhibits of original spa treatments.
After that we had a nice soak in a mineral bath at Buckstaff Bathhouse on Spa Row and then we went out for dinner and drinks at a jazz club. And before heading back to our hotel, we took the haunted tour of the town which was full of less than believable tales of terror and a nice refreshing walk even if it wasn't particularly scary or interesting.  Another comfortable night passed and then it was time to be back on the road.
