Cozy-ing Up to the Cold Shoulder

Not too much to say today, just chillin' at the park.  This is my first "cold shoulder" dress, but I rather like it.  It's fun and perfect for the fall festival season which is just geting started this very weekend at this very park.  Soon it will be covered in chrysanthemums, straw bales, and festival goers looking for country crafts and funnel cakes.  I've missed this part of American and I can't wait.

The Very Last Slice of Summer

    What happened to summer?!  I've been looking forward to an oppressive heat that lasts well into October for so long and now here it is, still August and I'm dragging out all my tights and cardis to get me through the chilly mornings.  There's no time to lose if I want to wear my lovely watermelon print dress from RoseGal.com  

    This dress was the inexpensive version and as far as I can tell the reason it costs less is because it is synthetic fabric instead of cotton, and  is unlined.  So, if you're a bit of a clothes horse like me and always pining after the latest prints without the bankroll to buy them all, and if you already have the appropriate undergarments i.e. slips and chemises, petticoats, etc, then these dresses, ranging from $15-$30 are really worth it.  I've got more RoseGal dress picks on the way!

I don't think of myself as a girly-girl per say, but I have found the pinkest, frilliest, the absolute ultimate in girliness and I am loving every second in this top.

Cocktail Hour

Even though our budget is getting cut now that we're living on our own land and soon to be farm, it's important to keep date night.  Normally it's two hours waiting at the best (and only) Thai restaurant in town followed by a movie and then coffee, but for this date night we're thinking cocktails.  So, I decided to try something new and abandon my stand by style of fitted waist/ full skirt dresses for something with a little more sparkle.  This 20s inspired dress with a low back and scalloped hem  really caught my eye.  It's not quite a flapper style dress, and oh how I wish I had one of those, but it's a departure from my usual and I adore it.  The minute I put on this slinky LBD, I knew it was meant to be.  I ordered this dress in a size small, one size up from my usual as recommended by the web site sizing guide, and it fits perfectly.  Black heels and gold geometric dangle earrings with a messy up-do at the end of a very long day, and I'm able to lightly touch up my make up and dash out the door.

Bleu & Black Stripe Dress

I hate to post and dash, but I still have a house full of boxes and a million outside things to do, plus I'm on a time crunch, because I have to be available to pick up and drop off the kids from school and all in between my work schedule.  It's hard not to look back and miss my simpler life, but I know how unhealthy that is, so I'm trying to just keep pressing forward.  I have so, so many new things to share--outfits and otherwise, but  for today, just a few pics of this gorgeous electric blue stripe dress.  The top is very boxy on me, so I added some shape, definition, and just a tiny bit of attitude with this form fitting cropped black leather jacket.  The geometric earrings also help to punch up the look without overwhelming this dizzying print.

At the Library

 The eclipse is today and people are losing their freaking minds about it.  Everyone seems to have just heard about it five minutes ago and is scrambling like mad to get some glasses for viewing the sun without burning holes in their eyes.  It's madness!  We've known about this eclipse for the better part of a year!  But, I guess there's no time like the last minute.  Anyway, I'll be watching the sky with some welding goggles and my favorite family, but I'm spending my morning at the library until it's time for the big event to begin.  I don't do many posts with jeans...I intend to remedy that because I actually do wear some pretty cute outfits with jeans at least once or twice a week.

Gingham on the Go

Just a quick post featuring my favorite and only little gingham dress.  It's perfect for a sleepy Sunday or any day really because even though it's black and white it goes with every color or is a perfect standout piece all by itself.
