How to Wear Paperbag Trousers

At this moment you've read the title and you may be wondering, "What are paper bag trousers? " and you may be secretly adding to that "they sound horrible!"  Rest assured this fashion trend not some bizarre attempt at hillbilly chic.  Paper Bag Trousers do have an uncouth name, but they're actually very chic and flattering on lots of body types.  So, forget about the name and let's talk about what they are and how to wear them.
First and most obviously, What are they?  They're any trouser or shorts with a high waist that is ruffled/ bunched up around the top and has a tie belt.  I know that description still doesn't make them sound great, but they're actually very chic and trendy and the rules for wearing them are quite simple.
Because paper bag trousers are high waisted, the same rules for wearing high waist jeans apply here, the first rule being select the right kind for your shape.  If you're an apple shape these may not be a good option for you.  If you're petite, look for something with a shorter hem so you won't be swimming in them.  And if you're feeling a little shy about showing off your curves, opt for something with a straight leg like I'm wearing here.
When it comes to what to wear with these classy trousers, don't try to hide everything that's going on at the waist, it will only look lumpy and strange if you do.  Instead opt for a bodysuit, form fitting top or a crop top that shows just a bit of midriff.
I opted for this see-through mesh top with a fun start print and a satin crop top underneath.  If I were wearing this in the workplace, I would wear a camisole instead of a crop top and a slim blazer over the top.
While we're on the subject of a slim blazer, keep all your coordinates slim. These trousers are perfect for creating an hourglass shape, but that can be overpowered by the wrong additions to he overall look.
Because you have a bit of bulk at the waist line, you don't want to add bulky layers on top of it.  Keep everything sleek and streamlined to maintain that curvy silhouette.
As for the rest of the accessories you choose, it really depends on the look you want.  I'm wearing strappy heels with mine, but classic pumps would also look nice.  I would suggest avoiding boots because it can be tricky to select the right kind for this look.  Ballet flats and sneakers look nice, but be sure that you're wearing a shorter length on the trousers, you don't want your hemline dragging the ground.
I'm sure I'll have a few more tips in upcoming posts about how to wear Paper Bag Waist Trousers, but for the present, I hope this has been helpful in getting you started and stay tuned for more tips.
