Bye, Bye, Bernie

Whether it's people leaving my life or my favorite designer folding up shop, I don't like endings; I much prefer beginnings.  Saying goodbye is a part of life. It's one that I've never been terribly good at and yet, say goodbye we must for Bernie Dexter is closing her shop for good.
Of course, I loved Bernie Dexter Dresses the minute I first saw them a decade ago, but in more recent years I've become a big fan of Bernie herself as she has turned 50, went through a painful divorce, kept her business going through the chaos of 2020, all the while trying to heal and find love again.  I admired her.  I still do.  She inspired a lot more than just my style.
It's easy to see a successful person and think they've always had it good and that's why they're successful.  But, the truth is that most people who achieve success have fallen down and gotten back up more times than we'll ever know, the only reason they're successful is because of that last part, the part where they kept getting back up.
As someone who's been knocked down pretty hard more than once, it gave me hope to see Bernie pick herself up and move on when troubles came her way.  I know she didn't intend to inspire that way, but she did.  And I know that closing this shop isn't the end for her.  She'll get back up again and find her way once more.
But, in the meantime, let me just say, Bernie, babe, you've made a big difference in the lives of a lot of women.  You've made us look and feel elegant, shapely, bewitching, fun, stylish, whimsical, classy, wonderful.  Thank you, beautiful lady, for all that you've done and every dress you've made.
I look forward to seeing what comes next for Bernie.  I know there are great things on the way and this one's just for you Ms. Dexter with all my thanks.
