Adventurous November

November [ noh-vem-ber ].  noun  1.  The eleventh month of the year containing 30 days.  2.  The last month of autumn but, the beginning of new adventure; time to take risks and do the unexpected. ~unknown~
In the U.S. November is all about thankfulness and that is a really wonderful tradition and one I've practiced no matter where in the world I've found myself over the years.  Maybe it's because of that that I've never really thought of November as a time to take risks and have new adventures.
I've always thought of it as a time to winter-proof the house (yes, even when I was kid) and stock up firewood and dry or canned foods that will cook easily should snowstorms deprive us of electricity for a few days or weeks. When I saw this definition though, I couldn't help smiling and I definitely couldn't resist adding it to my post.
I've never really realized it before, but there is something about November that does put me into an adventurous mood.  I spend more time wandering in the woods, exploring the bluffs and caves around my home and just generally feeling a little braver to go poking around places I'm too timid to explore in the spring when the animals are awake.
It all makes sense really, that last surge of energy and enthusiasm before winter forces us indoors.  In November the oppressive end-of-summer heat is gone too and that makes all of us want to be outdoors a little more. whether it's for raking leaves in the sunshine or sitting by the fire pit at dusk.
So, if you're feeling a little inspired by this definition, or if you have some unusual and adventurous ways of ringing in the autumn season, comment below and tell me how you plan on being adventurous this November.
