Autumn is on the way and I'm ringing in the fall with a little GownTown glamour in this lovely collared dress with bow detail at the back.  I love this shade of muted mustard, it's just perfect for autumn.

Orange and Blue Will Do

One of my earliest posts was about the right way to combine color wheel opposites such as orange and blue.   If you're not familiar with color theory, color wheel opposites are the harshest visual combination.  But that doesn't mean you have to steer clear.   You can see my previous posts on orange and blue here and here, but the jist is: reach for a more muted shade of one to enhance the other.
For today's outfit I combined an intense orange with a (muted) navy blue and a darker orange cardi to tone down the contrast.  Voila!  Visual interest instead of seared retinas.

Shy Butterfly

I don't know why I feel the need to write something/anything to go along with each post.  Chalk it up to the nature of an introvert; we're shy but we still want to be seen and heard in our own way.  And somehow, having a blog accomplishes that while maintaining some sense of privacy.  Is that odd to say that something on the internet is private?  The vast majority of people who "know" me don't know I have a blog and of those who do, I never give out the address or the name.  Some people find it, if they really want to, and that's Ok.  It's public but somehow private as well.  This blog has been active for almost 12 years and yet it's still a very small place.  I like it that way.

Celia & Disturbia

2026 is off to a rocky start.  Barely out of a huge family holiday drama and we had a big trip and a couple of medical emergencies back to back to back.  I'm kind of tired already, but such is life and we just keep going.  We drove in all the winter chill to an out of state graduation that was in a small town in the middle of no where...and I loved it!  This tiny old town had so much history, tiny little eateries, funky small bookstores, and even an antique store where I found both this lovely vintage necklace and beaded bag for a song.  I have recently tried a new-to-me brand called Disturbia and though I only purchased two pieces in total, I am very pleased with the results.

I ended my No Buy challenge after 8 weeks, by making this purchase from Disturbia and one other dress from Unique-Vintage and just in time for this trip because I knew I might want to look at thrift or antique stores and decided to allow myself that flexibility. Also, I like to plan for success, which is why I knew I didn't want to be ratcheted down on my spending during a family trip.  It worked like a charm.  I enjoyed my time with my family, the pressure was off me financially, and  I only spent $20 at the antique shop with no regrets about the lovely pieces I found there.

As far as this Celia Moth dress from Disturbia, it's unlike anything else in my wardrobe, and since it's also been a while since I've done a Youtube review of a brand, you can check out the lengthy, long winded details  on the video below.

9 Billion Names; 1 Pretty Dress

"[He] lifted his eyes to heaven.  (There is always a last time for everything.)  Overhead, without any fuss, the stars were going out."  The Nine Billion Names of God.  Arthur C. Clark.

The first time I read a vintage Sci-Fi novel I was sixteen, working as the manager of the book department in a quirky little fandom shop, and the genre came at the recommendation of boy I was desperate to impress.  I began with Dandelion Wine and The Illustrated Man both by Ray Bradbury and followed those up with Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card.  The boy was never impressed with me and that relationship went no where, but my love affair with classic science fiction endures to this day.

I've just started watching a show called Pluribus (from the creator of Breaking Bad) and am truly enjoying this modern alien invasion show, but it has stirred up a hankering to return to some of my favorites from the past.  So, I have borrowed a quote from science-fiction legend, Arthur C. Clark for today's post.  It's a short story, like many of the sci-fi greats, but it conveys so much in its few words.  The outfit and the theme for the post don't really go together, but why do they have to anyway?
