Catching Unicorns

This dress was on my Unicorn list for ages and now it finally became available.  I didn't purchase it years ago when it came out on ModCloth because they didn't carry my size.
Since them my sewing skills have improved and I'm very good at gauging whether or not I can alter a dress just by looking at  photo.  This one seemed doable, so I got it for a steal on a resale site and it's in excellent condition.
I thought it also looked pretty seasonal with that bright red belt and buttons and since there are always tons of family photos during this time of year, the dress' portrait theme didn't seem too far off either.
It's nice when we've searched for something for so long and finally acquire it.  I know it's a small thing, just a couple of yards of cotton, but there is a sense of satisfaction that goes along with finding that dress that got away and as far as hobbies go, I think this is a pretty good one and one that also makes me look pretty good too.

  1. Yess! I had just been thinking of 'unicorn' dresses and at the start of the year, found a Dear Creatures dress from 2013 that I'd wanted very badly, in my size, pre owned and it's on my way to me. Those pieces can feel so special! Glad you found this one and could alter it, and that it suits you so well!

  2. I came upon your sweet blogsite as a result of shopping for a tulle skirt for a forever-young friend who rocks everything from pencil skirts to multi-layered ball gowns. Also, I have been greatly enjoying your illustrated commentaries. You and the natural scenes certainly complement each other. Those woods and rocky areas are so much like my home area in northern Wisconsin.
