The morns are meeker than they were, as a great poetess once wrote about the beginning of autumn. I can tell that the days are shorter and a little cooler. I am trying to set aside time in each weekend day to stop all the remodeling work and go outside to enjoy a little sunshine while it lasts. Sunshine, my dear friends, is the best way to get your vitamin D levels optimal so you can fight off all the winter crud out there, and it only takes about 15 minutes a day to get as much as you need.
I've definitely noticed that in years when I have made a point to be outside as much as possible in the sunshine, and by as much as possible I mean 12 minutes per day with 80% skin exposure, I am far less likely to get sick during the winter and seem to recover far quicker. By contrast, the years when I don't make time, I always come down with the flu. Is this anecdotal evidence? Yes, it certainly is, but it's happened consistently enough that I'm a believer.
In addition to boosting my immune system, time spent outdoors in the sun just makes me feel happier and less stressed, and that is definitely worth making time for! So, while the warm days last, I plan to be outside as consistently as possible.
