Elise Starry Dress

The Fashion Fates smiled last year on Black Friday as Teuta Matoshi held her sale with 30% off all dresses.  I wish I'd had more funds to devote to this sale because, really there was more than one I'd been eyeing for awhile, but all I had left in my savings was enough to buy just one dress and the Elise Starry dress was at the top.  So, on November 28th I ordered a dress that I'd had my eye on for as long as I've been aware of Teuta's shop, and now was my time to finally buy.  And then I waited.  I've never shopped Teuta's Black Friday sale, but evidently it causes such a surge in orders that whereas all my previous purchases shipped within four weeks, this time around the dress carried an 8-10 week wait for delivery.  So, I waited.  And waited.  Annnnd waited.

The reason my savings was a little shy was because I used most of it in October to buy a new (vintage) bed, new (vintage) couches, a new (to me) accent chair, and a dozen antique windows so that Mr. Bleu and I could begin construction on what I call a conservatory and Mr. Bleu calls a greenhouse.  The difference, in case you're wondering, is that a greenhouse is for growing plants, a conservatory is for enjoying them, and that's what I want.  A little sunny room complete with a chaise lounge and a few bookshelves and tables to make a space for plants to grow and for me to relax in the sunshine through the cold winter months.

Four long months later, the dress finally arrived and I made plans to do a review right away.  Annnnnd then it snowed outside and we were all stuck indoors.  I like to wait to make videos until the house is empty and I prefer to do photos in nicer weather, so I decided to wait until after the snow day and the weekend to unbox this beauty.  But, then my appendix went haywire at the end of that snow day and I wound up having surgery on the weekend and spending a week doubled over, tightly gripping my abdomen in order to slowly schlepp from one resting place to another.  Exactly one week later, I was feeling a little better and more than a little restless after having spent so much time doing nothing that I thought I could manage to make a quick review with a few pics.  Please know that better photos are on the way as soon as I'm able to get up and about more, but for now this little endeavor was pretty exhausting.

Even though I did not custom size the Elise dress, it fits perfectly and it is my favorite shade of pink!  Truth be told, it was just the little pick me up I needed while spending yet another day alone while recovering.  Shopping isn't the answer to all our problems, but sometimes a little something new doesn't hurt.  There was a little glitter shedding, but nothing extreme and this dress has pockets!  Only three layers of tulle and a lightweight lining layer, so this dress is light and airy.  The tie straps are adjustable and there is a hook and eye clasp at the top to make it easier to zip.

A lot of people ask what I do with my dresses and I do lots and lots of things with my dresses, but even if I didn't I'd still buy them because I love them so much.  As far as this beauty goes, I'm planning to wear the Elise dress to do some family photos this year.  It's been years since we've done a family portrait session and I think it's time before the children are grown and moved out on their own.  Plus, there's a NYE celebration that I missed out on this year, but don't intend to miss again and this dress would be absolutely perfect for it.  All I have to do is get well and stay that way.

*sigh* Price Hikes on Pretty Dresses

Chotronette Garden Parfait Dress Review
I'm going through some serious withdrawals right now.  I haven't been able to get out and wear any of my pretty dresses for quite a while because it's just been too cold.  Also, I ordered one dress from Chotronette back in November and it still hasn't even shipped yet.  It's been over two months and I'm ready to see my dress!

I contacted Chotronette and they said the dress will ship sometime in January, but I can't help but be impatient after two months of waiting.  I also bought a dress  from Teuta Matoshi during the Black Friday sale and as you may have guessed, I'm still waiting for it too.

More disappointing news in this post I'm afraid as it seems that all of Chotronette's dresses have increased in price by about $400 per dress!  Some price increase due to inflation is to be expected but a dress going from $800 to $1200 overnight is outrageous.

These are beautiful dresses and if you have a special event, they really are fantastic, but they were already so expensive and I'm so sad to see that they've become even less affordable.  Believe it or not, I do have a spending limit on my dresses and unfortunately, $1200 is well beyond that limit.

I suppose there's nothing to be done except to adore the dress I have, patiently await better weather and the beautiful dresses that are on the way, and hope that things will get better soon so that these beautiful dresses will be a little more affordable again.

Per Chance to Dream

Teuta Matoshi Floral Dreams Cottagecore Wedding Dress Review

I'm sure Mr. Shakespeare wouldn't mind me borrowing a line from him, and totally out of context, especially if he could see the dress it's devoted to.  This dress is made of the stuff of dreams if anything ever were.  It is so stunningly gorgeous and I'm afraid with each new Teuta dress I only want more.

Teuta Matoshi Floral Dreams Wedding Cottagecore Dress Gown Review

Finding a new designer from whom I adore absolutely everything is like the excitement of young love when you meet someone new and wonder, are you the one?  Unlike love, I've never really found a "forever" kind of relationship with a designer, and that's how it's meant to be in the fashion world.  Styles are for a season in your life.  Your look will change as your life and body change, and that's how it should be.

For the moment and the season, I am perfectly pleased to be totally obsessed with all things Teuta Matoshi.  These dresses are beyond gorgeous and amazing and everything I'd want and totally frivolous to a woman living on a homestead in the mid-west, but what's life without a little frivolity now and then?  The farm will take every ounce of femininity a girl has if she's not careful.

When I first discovered TM, I just adored every single dress I saw, but I was particularly taken with this Floral Dreams dress.  Of all her dresses, this one was my dream dress.  I would have ordered it immediately, but because it was beyond floor-length I decided against it since I've never been to a single event in my life where I needed such a gown.  I opted for two other dresses, which you can view here and here.  While I waited on them to arrive, I kept looking back at the Floral Dreams dress and wondering why couldn't they just make a shorter skirt.  So......I asked them.  And they said yes!

They fully customized the size of the dress for my measurements and it fits like a glove.  Like a glove that was made for me personally.  Like they took photos of my hand and made a plaster cast and sewed every stitch while thinking of me.  That kind of glove.  Wow, I've never had a custom made dress before.  And now that I have, I don't know if I can go back to off-the-rack sizes after this.

Forgive me for posting a little late this morning.  The woods were boisterous and musical, everything waking up and coming alive, and the sunshine was so sweet that I took my time and filled my arms with so many blossoms that you may rightly be wondering at this moment, Did she leave any daffodils?  Well, there just happens to be an old one room school house on my route, and every spring, the woods around it are filled, and filled to the brim, with daffodils, more than I could carry.
I imagine some school teacher wanting to spruce up her new home or a mother planting those bulbs a hundred years ago.  Maybe she wanted to make the school house seem a little more welcoming to some nervous new teacher.  Maybe she just wanted to care for her community.  Or perhaps it was done to please all the little children every spring, who undoubtedly came home with rosy cheeks, wind swept hair, and a chubby fist filled with flowers.
Then with sparkling eyes and outstretched arms, offering their prize for the delight of their mothers or to grace the teacher's desk.  And here it is, all these many years later, a monument to a simple act of thoughtfulness by some person whose name is lost to time but whose legacy lives on each spring.

So, while I picked (and picked and picked) I couldn't possibly take them all.  What I did take away was a wonderful memory of a beautiful spring morning and a dream and desire to plant my own daffodil garden this autumn in the hopes that I might also leave behind something beautiful that will come again each spring long after I am gone.
