The very first book I ever read to my very first child was A Apple Pie by Kate Greenaway. I'd been in love with her drawings ever since art school and it continued to be the only book I read to my daughter at bedtime until she was about 18 months old. Every evening we'd curl up in the rocking chair and she'd be sound asleep by the time "XY&Z all had a large slice and went off to bed."
As my little one grew, we began cooking together and I found this old vintage pie plate to help make our kitchen time a little easier since the recipe is on the plate. Although the first time we used it, we forgot to read all of the recipe before we put the crust on top of it, but we quickly learned to put the crust on last. As a tribute to fall, wonderful childhood memories, and an artist I admire, today we're doing our own apple pie in photos.
