There have been a few hiccups in getting my orders from the new Petit Trianon collection at Selkiecollection.com I've been waiting for a month for one of the dresses and it looks like it might be a few more weeks before it arrives. At least this beauty made it here safe and sound.
I ordered two dresses from the Petit Trianon collection and there were both Marie gowns. This dress in Belle Etoile has that lovely print that I adore in the French Puff dress, but with lots more ruffles, bows, and everything else. One complaint though: The neckline is so low! I'm 40, ok, I'm not going braless. Not anywhere or in any dress. Solution? The Tempest Basque in Peach from Bettie Page by Playful Promises.
My size sold out at Playfulpromises.com, but I managed to find it at a UK based shop called Hepburnandleigh.co.uk. This was something I was going to buy anyway, but when it arrived, I looked at it, then looked at my Marie Gown and Eureka! The solution to my problem presented itself. Sometimes the only solution is to be very intentionally show your bra.
The Petit Trianon Collection has lots of gorgeous prints and styles, but unfortunately not much in the Ritz or Tea Rose styles that look best on me. The Marie Gown is over the top gorgeous but it's so extravagant that I can't imagine wearing it to very many places aside from photo sessions.
With lots of layers of this lightweight organza this dress is quite long and just begging for a petticoat and tall pink pompadour wig. (Maybe I've just found my Halloween costume for next year!) Although I do think that I will remove the bow at the waist. It really hides the lovely narrowness created by the fitted waist and the bow is only held on by one line of stitches so I should be able to easily remove it without damaging the dress.
I've also seen one person on a Selkie fan page sew the neckline closed so that no cleavage was showing. The bodice is lined with cotton so you can attempt this without damaging the dress. Organza is so difficult to work with and it easily frays, so if you do decided to alter on your dress proceed with caution.
Since Petit Trianon released, Selkie has released two more collections: Holiday Party and Sugar Plum. They're both rather sweet, but I am saving my money for the spring release of the Rapunzel collection. The only trouble is that it's only three months away and there are more dresses that I want to buy than there is time to save up for them.
