It's been a while since I've done a Chic Wish outfit. Actually I bought this dress back in July, but I've been waiting for just the right place to photograph it. I was hoping for a weekend getaway in August, we even had the reservations confirmed, but life had other plans.
We had a close family member go into the hospital and some house repairs that would no longer be ignored, and a few other things of less importance that all cropped up at once. I wouldn't have canceled for the small stuff, or even the house repairs, but when someone you love is in the hospital, you won't enjoy yourself being far away. Better to stay close to home until they're feeling better.
So, that's what we did. We canceled our plans, sent well wishes to our loved one since we weren't allowed to visit, and proceeded to work on our home and take care of other matters like responsible grown-ups. And finding just the right setting in which to photograph this lovely dress was understandably put on the back burner.
Do you remember that expression from The Sound of Music, where Fraulein Maria says, "When the Lord closes a door somewhere he opens a window." Maria was in need of a big time miracle, but that sentiment applies to the little things too. When one avenue closes, keep your eyes open and another will inevitably open. If by some chance it doesn't, maybe that's just a sign that you're not meant to go that way.
I kept my eyes open and saw this lovely little spot in a park on my commute. It wasn't what I had originally envisioned, but it had the prettiest flowers around and it complimented the colors in the dress very well. We've also kept our eyes open and another opportunity for a little getaway has presented itself, so we've booked our trip and I'm looking forward to it more this time than before. Whether it's small measures of grace or bigtime miracles keep your eyes open for ways to bless and be blessed.
