Pub Garden Alterations

Last year I had a falling out with Selkie.  It was tough because I was so completely obsessed, but I did a lot of thinking and while at first, I was fully committed to completely walking away, over time, I think I just needed space.  And I think I need to keep that boundary up, kind of like when there's an actor I love and then I hear them talk about something important and they just sound so stupid that it kind of spoils their movies for me for a while.  Eventually I can watch them again and appreciate them as an artist while ignoring their pitiful attempts at intellectualism.
I know a lot of break-ups involve getting rid of everything, but I decided not to get bitter about it, but to get better instead.   I committed to altering everything so that it was all 100% styles that I loved, because there was usually one element to every dress that I didn't like.  Everything was always either embarrassingly short, trip-over-it long, or so very puffy I couldn't cram it into a coat or sweater so I could actually wear it outside my climate controlled house.
You've probably seen my previous alterations in which I either changed the Day Dress sleeves, shortened the hem on the ritzes, or added an extra ruffle to the cottage puff and tea dresses, but if not, search "sewing project" and they'll turn up.  Today's dress is the Pub Garden Cottage Puff dress and hopefully the very last time I have to add a ruffle to anything, because I HATE IT.  Adding ruffles is time consuming, tedious, and difficult and I just white knuckle my way through the whole thing, but at the end I love the dress so much more that it keeps me going to the next one and the next one.
As always and in case you're wondering, in order to do these alterations I bought a second dress at a greatly reduced price, cut the skirt off, folded it in half, cut it, sewed the two strips into one long strip and then hemed, gathered, and sewed that sucker down.  I also always remove one of the two layers of organza underneath to help the dress lay a little flatter because I got tired of people asking me if I was trying to hide a baby bump.  Done and done.
Now I do have a dress that I love and as far as I can tell, this was the very last of my Selkie Sewing Alterations that have been sitting on my sewing table since last year when the fracas occurred and thank heavens because I was seriously running out of steam.  But, I do love this dress and it was finished just in time to wear to Easter celebrations.
