Over the years, I've done a number of posts bidding a sad farewell to designers and brands that I loved. It's just the biz that one day a brand is on top and the next it's going under. Covid definitely contributed to the collapse of more than a few of my favorties including Bernie Dexter. But, in a wonderful twist of fate, Bernie is back! And instead of always saying goodbye, in this post, we get to say Hello, Again to Bernie Dexter.
Bernie was THE vintage babe of the 20-teens. She made us all feel beautiful and I hate that Covid took those beautiful dresses from us. Yes, Covid nearly ended Bernie's Empire just as it was really coming to fruition. She closed the shop for a while and all the Bernie-Babes held back our tears and said goodbye. Fortunately, you can't keep someone like Bernie Dexter down for long.
Bernie made a deal to sell her dresses through Bettie Page until she got back on her feet and figured out her next move. It was a move that would take her to Las Vegas as it turned out, and according to her blog post as of the September of 2023, Bernie says it's the best decision she's ever made.
Now after several years of trying things, moving forward, staying focused, her shop is back with lots of beautiful new dresses (although I did notice that size XS seems to have disappeared and I'm sad about that, but still extremely happy for her). So, in honor of Ms. Dexter and all her brand has meant to so many of us, I thought I would feature some of my favorites from years past starting with this Paris dress.
You can be certain that a collection post is on the way, but for today I just wanted to honor this gutsy lady and give her props for persevering.
