Renaissance Faire

It's festival time and we kicked off the season with a trip to the Rennaisance Faire.  It's been ten years since I've been to one and I was pretty excited.  I seem to be getting excited about a lot of silly things lately.  Chock it up to having been away for so long.  Whatever the cause, I knew it was going to be a good day.  Since this is a fashion blog, I don't mind mentioning that I planned my outfit to be suggestive of the Renaissance without being a full costume, so I wore a silk peasant dress and jewelry that had Middle Eastern influenced designs and prints, a wide belt, suggestive of a corset, and my favorite easy hair style which also has a bit of a medieval times feel to it.

Tiger Lilies

Orange Photo Flower, Lily and Daisies Photo, Tiger Lily Sun, and Spotted Lily Close Up from Etsy.com
Growing up I remember every year I knew it was really summer when the tiger lilies in the flower bed of our front yard were in bloom.  I spent hours spent splashing in our little pool, and every now and then I'd sneak over to pick just one so no one would miss it, and put it in my hair while pretending I was a mermaid.
This gorgeous  patch of tiger lilies grows wild in a nearby field.  Their peak blooming season has passed already and I just haven't had a chance to come out here until today.   I just had to snap a few pics before they're gone again for another year, and of course for such a day I need a comfy shirt dress in a brilliant color.

Raspberry, Blackberry, Jamberry

Bowl of Berries Print, Printable Fruit Close-up, Berry Crochet Pattern, and Farmer's Market Print from Etsy.com
Last time we went berry picking, we came home with two gallons of blueberries.  This time we decided to pick raspberries and blackberries and to limit ourselves to just two pints, so we could better enjoy the quiet morning.  We arrived as soon as the farm opened and had the whole first hour to ourselves except for the birds and a bunny or two.  This is what summer memories are made of.
Today I'm wearing my second Community Brunch Shirt Dress in Plaid print this time.  The fabric is a looser weave than the Travel print and I wasn't sure the fit would be the same, but if anything, I think it's a little more comfortable.  The fabric is softer and the fit just feels more breathable.  Also, I love the warm colors of this dress.  It is fully lined and comes with pockets and a contrast belt.  Ironing it out of the package was a cinch, this fabric doesn't seem to hold wrinkles like a stiffer weave would.  I haven't had the chance to wash it yet, but I think it's going to come out of the wash as lovely as it went in.

All About that Ombre

A good ombre is such a thing of beauty.  A bad ombre, on the other hand, looks like the sad remains of a giant, melted popsicle.  Fortunately, I think this is one of the loveliest examples I've seem recently.  I only wish the cut were as flattering as the colors.  This is probably the baggiest dress I currently own.  While it does nothing for my figure, it is a comfy, casual fit while I'm out roaming the countryside today.
This sleepy little town we were driving through has been renovating area farm houses in an attempt to revive the town.  This farmhouse is about 150 years old and has long been a favorite of mine whenever I would visit here as a child.  I'm so glad it's being well cared for.  Though the mint green paint on the root cellar or the pale blue on the veranda ceiling seemed like odd choices, the colors went perfectly with my dress, so I decided to snap a pic or two.
