Fa La
La, the holidays are almost here and this Emerald Bardot Cowl Neck Ruched Midi Dress - Malia from FemmeLuxe is quickly
topping my list of 2019's most Christmas Party Dresses. You know I love FemmeLuxe for their Co-Ords and
Satin Dresses, but they also have so many great options for the holidays from Christmas Party Dresses to Glitter Dresses and I'm so
excited to share a few with you. Earlier
this week we talked about some tips for avoiding the holiday stress that comes
from that inevitable struggle with a little weight gain and finding the right
confidence boosting dress for this time of year.
If
you missed that particular post, you can find it here and I hope you'll check
it out. For Monday's post I featured the Malia Dress in Rust. Because this is such a
gorgeous style that I wanted to showcase it again today in Emerald in case
you're looking for that special style in a more traditional holiday color. When it comes to shopping for the right dress
for all those holiday occasions, I have a few tips to make the experience a
little less stressful.
Choose
Your Color. You can't go wrong with
black. Black works for pretty much any
occasion any time of year and it is absolutely ok to play it safe with a black
dress. Everyone should have one,
right? I think so. But, if you want something with a little more
kick, don't shy away from colorful selections.
You know I love colorful outfit combos, the brighter the better and last
month I started talking about the topic
of Teal. Teal is such a wonderful color
because it pairs well with so many other colors and Emerald is just Teal's sophisticated sister. Emerald looks great in all seasons,
but at this time of year, it's particularly stunning.
Plan
Ahead. A few years ago, long before
my journey through the fashion world began, I was relaxing and enjoying the
holidays---like a fool. My tree was up,
my house was decorated, the cookies were baked, all my shopping was done, and
my cards were mailed weeks ago. I was
all set...or so I thought. It was the 18th
of December and I got an invite to a formal event that I couldn't refuse and
didn't really want to, but I had absolutely nothing to wear.
With
only five days until the big event, I knew that it was pretty unlikely that any
online purchase would reach me. I was
new to the area where I lived, but I knew there were no formal wear shops in
town, and if there were any shops in nearby towns, I couldn't find them. Plus, I had no idea what size I wore, because
as I mentioned, I knew nothing about fashion.
I'd been wearing the same baggy jeans for years because I used to be one
of those who thought I just couldn't wear dresses, so I was totally clueless
about what to do.
In
the end I bought two black dresses one extremely formal, one far less formal
and hoped one of them would make it in time.
The less formal one arrived first—thank you priority shipping—and I went
to the ball looking kind of schlumpier than everyone else, but acceptable. The other dress arrived a week later and
although it would have been perfect for the party, it was a size too big anyway. Imagine if I'd had the Malia Dress; I would have
been the belle of that ball instead of the mouse in the corner.
So,
what should I have done? Plan
ahead. I knew these kinds of events were
going to happen, I only wish I'd known about FemmeLuxe back then. I should have gone
shopping months before to find something perfect and in the right size. But, I didn't. I think the real reason many people, myself
included, don't plan ahead for these kinds of events is because we're afraid
we'll spend all that time and effort and then nothing will come along. If that fear is holding you back, don't let
it anymore. I'd rather have something
ready to wear for the occasion if it comes than be scrambling at the last
minute and have to settle for something less than. Besides, if all else fails, create your own
special occasion. Invite everyone you love
and get all dressed up to celebrate celebrating. Why not?!
Give
Yourself a Gift. I know you probably
think I'm going to say the beautiful dress is a gift, and it is, but the best
thing you can do when dress shopping is love your shape and dress it like you
do. Choosing the right dress that makes
your body look its best is an excellent gift, and I think the Malia Dress is Emerald is just
the right dress for the job, but loving your shape, how you're made and who you
are is going to give you the confidence you need to wear that dress the way it
was meant to be worn.
