All those perfect dreamy moments we see on Insta, do you ever stop and make your own or do those sorts of moments seem too ethereal to have IRL. I love creating whimsical images, but my very favorite thing to create is real and beautiful memories.
Rarely do perfect places exist. All things need a little care and attention, including our quiet time. It all starts with a dream, something along the lines of I'd like to have a tea party. Whom would I invite? Well, my favorite people of course. What would I serve? Pretty cakes and tea. Where would I have this party? Well, it would take a little work, but what if I transformed my own little yard into a beautiful space.
It sounds simple, because it is. Deciding to create a little event is the easiest thing to do; however, working to make it happen can be daunting.
Sometimes even the best laid plans don't work out at all. My life is nothing if not a testament to that fact. But, if there's one thing I have not only learned, but come to embrace it's that it's worth the work to put care and effort into creating a beautiful moment, but then, sit back and enjoy the people, not the effect.
If you find yourself spending all your time worrying about what might go wrong or what is going wrong, you've missed the whole point. If you're looking at the decorations or the food or the weather, you've got your eyes on the wrong prize. Look at the faces of the people you're with. Taste the food, savor the conversation, smell the flowers, let the goodbye hugs last a second or two longer.
Create the moment and then pause to enjoy it-the perfect and the imperfect and the disastrous all mixed together in a beautiful moment.
If there is one thing I've learned in my life it's that I'm more likely to remember the smiles, the laughter, the togetherness than I am to remember when went wrong. And I'm more likely to make time for such moments if things don't have to be perfect. I just have to put the busy work on hold and make time be together with the people most important to me.
Looking back on my life, I don't regret the times where a few things went wrong. I don't even regret the times when absolutely everything went wrong. I regret the times I did nothing at all, when I didn't do a thing, didn't reach out, and yet another day slipped away in front of a screen or stuck at a desk.
So, what do you say? Do you have a few hours free? Grab a few things to much, a nice soft blanket, and the hand of someone you love, and make a little time for some dreaming under the trees.
