Studio Work

This houndstooth dress was a long admired piece from Stop Staring.  I couldn't find it in my size, but that actually worked out well, because I had it tailored at the waist and now it fits like a dream, without all that pesky puckering across the thighs that I always get with my pencils dresses.  I've taken it out into the autumn world for photos before, but I thought this year we would try it out in the studio.
I'm becoming a bit of a wimp about getting up early to go out into the freezing cold to take photos.  I enjoy sleeping in and having a nice, relaxing morning and I simultaneously hate being cold, like really and truly hate it. You can see how this sets the stage for preferring a studio to the outdoors.
I will say that studio lighting is much trickier for me to work with than natural light, always has been, even when I had my own studio lighting, I always set my backdrop near a window so I could utilize as much sunshine as possible.   So, as much as I have loved being warm and arriving as a reasonable time to take these pics, I am often not nearly as happy with the results as I am when in the great outdoors.
On this particular morning, we did both.  We had been out taking photos at sunrise and then drove to the studio where the owner said since we had the first appointment of the day, she would leave the key and we could go in as early as we liked and have access to all her props.  She's pretty wonderful like that.  So, we were able to get a ton of different outfits photographed in this space, but I really loved this backdrop and one other. So, preapre yourself to see them a lot!
