The Distant Shining Shores of Faëry Lands

Unique Vintage 1950s Purple Gingham Golightly Swing Dress

In imagination she sailed over storied seas that wash the distant shining shores of "faëry lands forlorn," where lost Atlantis and Elysium lie, with the evening star for pilot, to the land of Heart's Desire. And she was richer in those dreams than in realities; for things seen pass away, but the things that are unseen are eternal.”

I love finding these dreamy places in the world and sharing them with you.   They're everywhere really, if you look with the right eyes.  I spotted this little hillside while visiting with my parents one afternoon and decided that this would be the perfect place to photograph this dress.

Unique Vintage gave a little sneak peek of this dress in an ad months ago.  It was just a little teaser showing the center and not much else, but I loved the print and colors, so I was waiting anxiously to see what the rest of the dress looked like.  When it arrived in stock, I was not disappointed and the wait was worth it for such a pretty dress.  I ordered my usual size and started the search for the perfect shoes and bag.

I decided on these Fioni Heels from Thred Up and this Soda Pop novelty bag just for a little some cute and unusual to go with such a lovely dress.  When the dress arrived I had quite a bit of trouble getting into it.  Now, I know we're all bemoaning the fact that we've put on some "quarantine weight," and I'm ok with that, but as it turns out others seem to agree about this dress running a little small.

The only review on UV for this dress right now reported having the same trouble.  So, that was a relief that I haven't just gained far more weight than I realized.  Although UV sizing is usually spot on or even a little too big, this is the first time I've ever had to recommend that if you intend to buy this dress you should size up one size or learn to be Ok with "pancake boobs" as the reviewer referred to them.  Definitely giving her bonus points for the colorful description!

Other than the sizing issue, I think this is a gorgeous dress.  The fabric is thick and the dress is well made.  The skirt is full enough that it would look stunning with a petticoat perhaps in pink or teal?  This dress is made of a synthetic fabric but it is lightweight, so I intend to wear it throughout the summer.  I don't want to cover a dress like this under layers if I don't have to and I definitely don't want to wait until autumn to wear it.

Aren't these flowers gorgeous?!  Every year I see them growing wild in the fields and think to myself that eventually I'm going to take photos in them, but this has been the first year that I've found just the right spot on just the right quiet little hillside.

And that brings us right back to where we started this post, on this little piece of nature's floral finery, nestled against the hillside to block the blustery wind.
