There is a harmony in autumn,
and a luster in its sky,
which through the summer is not heard or seen,
as if it could not be,
as if it had not been.
~Percy Bysshe Shelley
Yes, there is a harmony in autumn, we feel it, all of us. There is a settling of the soul, a quieting of body and mind. Our thoughts turn inward; our bodies linger closer to home.
All the earth muffled and muted. The winds are softer and the animals are secretive and still.
Only the crunching of dry golden grasses disturb the peacefulness as I wander through this valley. My hands brush the tops of this wild wheat and the hist whist startles a squirrel with its cryptic tidings.
The low clouds hang over head growing grayer each moment. The thunder gives a long low grumble. The storm will come and dust the leaves so they shine again in deep red, gold, and orange.
But, there is time. Time enough to dream and time enough to lose myself in the words on these fragile pages.
