When I started this blog in 2014 (oh, my goodness, I can't believe it's been so long ago!) I really wanted to focus on the How-To side of fashion. But, after a while, I got tired of being so preachy about clothes. If you're glad that aspect of the blog fell by the wayside, you may want to stop reading here. This post is a little sermonette about combining clothes with different fits to create a balanced look.
This outfit is something I put together to wear to the office, so naturally, I didn't use a lot of color. Everything is neutral except for this bright red jacket.
Secondly, notice the cut of the blouse. It's flowy and loose. To bring balance to that loose fit, I paired it with a pencil skirt so give this look shape. Next, since this is a crop blouse and I'm heading to work, not the club, I've chosen a midi skirt so that I avoid showing midriff at the office.
If I had paired this loose, ruffled blouse with a full skirt, I would have been swallowed up by those forms, making me appear larger than I really am. However, correctly paired, this loose top creates a nice shape and doesn't hide my frame.
