I've seen the Belle Poque products come up in searches for vintage style dresses on amazon, but I hadn't really tried anything yet so I thought I'd take the opportunity to test out a few of their products.
As you may or may not know about me, I am not only a collector of antique and vintage clothing, I occasionally attend events like festivals and conventions which are mainly steampunk themed and do a little cosplay with the family. I also have volunteered at a local event in the historic district so I get lots of use from my Victorian/Edwardian clothing.
In fact, I have nearly worn out one of my favorite skirts, so I thought it was high time I replaced it just in case the world regains its sanity and festivals and conventions return this year. Last year I found this exquisite Victorian style blouse and have been waiting for the right skirt to come along. Since things don't always fall into your lap, I did a little search on Belle Poque and lo and behold, the perfect skirt turned up.
This skirt costs just under $40 on amazon and for that price you could reasonably expect it to be fair quality. This skirt delivers more than just fair quality. It is a nice heavy weight fabric with multiple layers and it has a drawstring at either side on the back so that you can create this lovely gathered look which is perfect for a bustle, or leave it down for a seamless full skirt.
You could add a petticoat for more volume and Belle Poque does sell one for just this type of skirt, but I think it is plenty full the way it is. Also, (cheat code here) my size was not available in this color, but this was the color I really wanted so I sized up and then took in the elastic at the back for the perfect fit. Since it's already gathered for the elastic, the alteration is completely unnoticeable.
