Plaid Company

It is entirely possible after over 1,000 posts and who knows how many titles involving puns exchanging bad for plaid that I have used this title pun before.  Forgive me if I have, it gets hard to keep up with them all.  I chose this particular title since my plaid tights are accompanying my sci-fi outfit, but while we're on the topic, let's talk about the importance of the company you keep.
Did you ever have your parents tell you that they didn't like your friends or they forbid you from hanging out with someone?  At the time you may have thought they were being totally stupid and unfair--funny how we think the worst of the people who love us the most, but that's really a subject for another post--but over time and looking back, perhaps you were thankful that they tried to keep you from bad influences.
Have you noticed in your adult life how differently you act around certain people?  There are people in my life who bring out the best in me.  I love being around them in part because I love who I am when they're around.  I'm funnier, happier, just generally a more likable person.  And then there are people who encourage the worst in me.  They're negative about everything, constantly complaining, constantly judging and over a long enough time it rubs off on me too.  I walk away feeling burdened and guilty about the kind of person I've been when with them.

The thing is just this: Your Parents Were Right.  Not just when you were a kid, but right now and for the rest of your life.  Humans are like sponges absorbing the attitudes and mannerisms of the people and things we're most exposed to. Who you spend your time with, whether they're coworkers, spouses, or friends, will have an impact on who you are, how you think, how you speak, and how you behave.  If you want to be your best self, surround yourself with people who challenge you and bring out the best version of you.
If you've noticed that all you do is complain and criticize when you're with a certain person, maybe it's time to rethink the relationship.  You can either cut ties or address the issue.  I prefer the latter if at all possible.  If you care about this person then they deserve the truth.  Something along the lines of, "Hey Jess, I've noticed that our conversations are always pretty heavily laced with negativity.  That's something I want to work on, because I love you and I value our friendship.  Let's agree to focus on the positive things in our lives and really supporting each other.  What do you say?"  It might not work, but it's worth a shot if it means improving both your lives and your friendship.  And don't you deserve a good life?  (No, don't pause to think about that, it's rhetorical.  The answer is yes, you do.)
Ok, Ok, enough of the admonitions for healthy living.  Let's talk about the fun stuff--Fashion!  So, today's outfit is a continuation of my Sci-Fi themed series based on this print from RockSteady.  They're no longer in stores, so I've been scouring the thrift shops in an attempt to catch 'em all.  And, I thiiiiiinnnnk I have.
Basic stuff for this outfit, just two colors really: red and black.  I've done some print mixing with the space cadet print and the plaid tights.  I've also got some theme mixing with the novelty print, plaid, and lipstick bag, but I think it all works together to create something really interesting and surprisingly comfortable.  I didn't get to wear these shorts over the summer and thanks to these tights, they don't have to go into storage.  Win:Win.  I think I have one more of these Sci-Fi outfits on the way with an as yet unseen article (maybe two) from the Space Cadet line.  That little lovely is coming in November or December, so keep checking back for the last installment in the series.
Shopping  Info:  Space Cadet Top from SteadyClothing, Lipstick purse from: ROMWE, Shorts from Shein, Tights from Ebay, flats are old.

  1. I couldn't help but think about a plaid pun for you when you mentioned plaid vs bad: "plaid to the bone". Maybe a good hallowe'en theme?
