Best Laid Plans

I wasn't sure I was ever going to post these photos.  They were a disaster from the start.  Nothing went the way I had hoped and planned.  I've had them for at least two months and I keep scrolling past them on my thumb drive when I look for photos to add to my next post.  I put so much work into this photo shoot and everything went wrong.
The best laid plans don't always yield the best results.  Sometimes, no matter how hard we try to think ahead and account for everything, things just don't work out.  And when, not if, that happens we are left with a choice: move on or try again.
Take something as simple as this little outfit photo shoot for example.  I watched for this Rainy Day pinny to go on sale at Princess Highway.  I waited for a sale for at least two or three months.  The sale came and I finally bought it, but all the while I had been planning the best location for photos with it.
When it arrived I carefully planned the outfit.  Then I waited for the leaves to turn and be at their peak before checking the weather for just the right time of day and perhaps a day with a few clouds to diffuse the sunlight.  The result of all that planning?
A whole bunch of blurry photos of a great and inexpensive outfit that was perfectly lit in a gorgeous background.  At first I was tempted to give up, but I thought it over for a while and decided to reshoot.
The second photo shoot had terrible lighting and more than a few blurry pics.  Again I asked myself is it time to give up or try again.
I decided to try it one last time and the result of that?  Well, I switched photographers and spent an hour or so working with my youngest daughter on how to take photos.
She actually did a stellar job on her end, but as much as I wish I could say it was great, but by then the leaves had mostly fallen and the stars just didn't align for a great shoot for this outfit.
After my third try at outfit photos for this pinny, I felt like I had given it my very best try enough times that I could hold my head high and shamelessly proclaim, "I give up!"
Some people will hang on to things until the bleak and bitter end.  Some will cut and run at the first sign of trouble.  If you identify with either of these, I want to encourage you to find the middle ground between these two extremes.

It really does take a measure of wisdom in all things to know when to hang on and try again and when to cut ties and walk away or flat out run.  Am I sounding like that old Kenny Rogers song about playing cards?  I'm just going to quickly pop over to youtube and listen to that before I finish this post.
Wow, I totally fell down the rabbit hole there and went from Kenny Rogers to What Ancient Egyptian Sounded Like directly followed by How Did Victorians Pee in Those Dresses.  Eeesh, I stopped before I watched that one...but it has peeked my curiosity.
Rainy Days Pinny from Princess Highway Pinafore Review
Back to my original point, if you're the type to gets nervous and has to cut and run, take a deep breath and try again, just one more time before you decide to give up.  You never know, it might work on the second, or the third try.
But, if it doesn't and if you're the type of person who hangs on too long, sweet heart, don't be ashamed to let go of something that not only isn't working but hasn't worked in a while.  You did your best, now it's time to move on.  Now if you'll excuse me, I need to know how Victorians went to the toilet in all those bulky layers.
