Let me ask you a question, and be honest, how much of your visits here are based on fashion and how much on home-spun stories? I hope it's an even mix of interest in both. But, if you're not a fan of the stories part, I don't mind if you just skim over them and look at the pretty dresses. You have my blessing.
Have you seen Karina's Nature Walk Collection yet? There are so many pretty prints, especially if you are a nature lover like me. Today I am wearing the
Megan Dress in Koi Pond Print. I am going places in this print! I
will definitely wear this dress to the office and a dinner date in this dress is on the horizon. I love this shade of
blue with the pops of yellow and the detailed pattern on the koi. I don't always have a tale to tell about a particular outfit, but this Koi print puts me in mind of a young cousin with incredible determination.
His family bought a crumbling old Victorian house in a quaint and formerly affluent mid-western town and diligently restored it. At the end of all their work they installed a small koi pond in their narrow, Victorian-sized backyard as the cherry on top of their great accomplishment. After a weekend away, they found their fish dead in the pond.
It seems the temperature had dropped sharply and the koi froze. Or did they. My little cousin, he was then about 13 years old, took a fish from the water and began rubbing its body to stimulate circulation. The fish responded. He filled a bucket with tepid water and after the fish began to move with more force he put it in the bucket and then went out for the next fish. He continued working in the cold, slowly and carefully until he saved every. single. fish. What patience. What a heart this kid had. And he has it still today.
He has grown into one of the strongest, kindest, most successful people I know. In a moment of tragedy, a moment of ill report, he refused to accept it. While others were sad, hanging their heads and walking away, he walked toward the issue and took action. And he didn't stop until everything was set right again. He didn't do it for the credit, or the success, or even because he had some strong feelings for the fish. He simply did it because life matters and it was the right thing to do.
So often in our lives, in big ways and in small ways, we all come to a moment when we could give up or keep fighting. Ask yourself in that moment what is the right thing to do. Keep in mind that the right thing is rarely the easy thing. In this life, the only reward we may have at times is the knowledge that we did the right thing. I know that doesn't sound like much of a reward, but when you get right down to it, it's the only thing that really matters.
